I like my dogs like like I like my cars, cheaper than they should be. Both cars cost way less than most people think and the two purebred border collies were a $100 donation to the Border Collie rescue I got them from.

Kinja'd!!!

(Not pictured: ol’ trusty, the silver, 08 Camry)

Sometimes both dogs and cars require some expensive repairs, but you make it happen because you love ‘em. Like the time my $100 pup ate a bottle of ibuprofen and quickly turned into a $1200 dog. Or the recent time where my wife rear ended a guy in her two week old (to her) Porsche (yep, still in the shop). Actually, now that I think about it, maintaining my dogs has been more expensive than any repairs to my cars, thanks USAA and accident forgiveness!

Kinja'd!!!

I do have to admit that my dogs are definitely better at off-roading than my cars.

Happy Friday, Oppo!

Border Collies are psycho and a Viper might as well be the Border Collie of the automotive world, props to you sir. Sorry to hear about the Porsche

My boys are sweet and cuddly as can be when they’re at home. They get psycho with 2 things: laser pens and when you ask them if they want to go to the dog park. I’ve met some crazy ones, but mine are much lower on the neurotic scale than a lot of em.

It’s okay; wasn’t too bad. She was only going 5 mph or so.

Yay for rescue pups! Ours also became a bit more expensive after eating half a pound of raisins with a smile on his big dumb face. He was 100% ok, but allegedly grapes/raisins can cause kidney failure in some dogs, so we played it safe.

Here’s our rescue....and his $1,500 knee.

(completely severed ACL while running laps in the backyard, why? because he wanted to test out how much our pet insurance would pay out I guess...)

We don’t have grapes or raisins at our house anymore, because the dog almost always gets at least a little handout from the toddler. Also, finger food quickly turns into projectiles when my child is done with them.

Here’s our Border Collie/Aussie mix. He’s a happy pup. Kinda dumb for a herding dog, though.

Rescue dogs are best dogs. That's pretty much all I have to say.

I grew up with a rescue. He was expensive too, especially when it came to removing the tumour that he got and the furniture he destroyed with our other dog. I miss him dearly.

Yep, rescues are awesome. Here’s ours at about 1-yr.

Sometimes mine completely astound me with their intelligence, and then they run head first into a wall and look at me all confused.

Thanks! I’ll tell my wife - I think she’s the one who took that pic. We share the “good” camera (Nikon D50), so it’s hard to tell. She did, however, take this one with her phone just a couple of weeks ago, so you never know. Same dog, 9 years later. Maybe they just get blurry with age?

Oz takes to his training pretty well, but his problem-solving skills are pretty much non-existent. And then there’s the ‘running into walls’ thing.

I read somewhere a good intelligence test is to put a treat under a towel and see how long it takes for them to get it.

Franklin mountains in El Paso. Awesome that they are a five minute drive from my house

Excellent dogs (rescue!) and excellent cars! You don’t actually DD the Viper? And neither seem great for carting around two medium size dogs.

My Rin (top) and Lance (below) are from Illinois Alaskan Malamute Rescue. Rin was the bottom of a pack of 5. She’s normal so she knows she’s No. 5 and is happy with her place. Lance is my special needs child who Rin is gradually realizing doesn’t know normal dog rules. She knows he’s actually No. 6 or 7 or 8 in the heirarchy but he thinks he is really No. 1 in the pack. Lance’s behavior would get him kicked out of a wolf pack so he’s lucky that Rin has been “relatively” nice about it.

Look into pet insurance, after Riley’s knee it’s 100% worth it.

1500 surgery that we ended up getting 1200 back from insurance on.

30 bucks a month or so is what i pay to ASPCA for piece of mind, Vet said if he did one he’ll probably blow out the other knee at some point.
